Plastic becomes the number one threat to our planet, as it pollutes our nature, our oceans and is toxic for our health.

We urgently need to change the way we produce and consume plastic, otherwise, by 2050 we will most probably have more plastic than fish in the oceans.

Eivissa y Formentera Sense Plàstic has launched its new campaign for Business  Certification with the slogan: ‘Be a Star’, inviting all the leading and innovative companies of the HORECA sector, to start removing and reducing single-use plastics in order to protect the environment of our islands.

“From the Plastic Free Ibiza and Formentera movement we believe that only if we all unite our forces at local level, (NGOs, businesses and governments), we can face the global plastic crisis. For this reason, we invite all companies to respond to this call for action and open the way for the islands of Formentera and Ibiza to be Free of Plastics by 2023 ”

With the adoption of pioneering laws, both at the Balearic and European levels, from 2021 single-use plastics will be banned! (Products such as plastic straws, cups, plates, cutlery, etc are the ones that mosty pollute our beaches and coastal waters). In line with these laws, the movement has created a ‘Business Certification without plastic’, that will be awarded to companies that want to be at the forefront of this movement.

To obtain this certificate, companies have to meet two commitments: to remove 3 single-use plastic products in the first year, and create a plan for the reduction and removal of single-use plastics from their company within 5 years (before 2023). This certification will be reviewed annually.

The certificate, which uses a simple process for its implementation this year, qualifies companies that take steps towards a plastic-free future in 3 Categories:

For removing 3 single-use plastic items

For removing 50% of single-use plastic items

For removing 100% of single-use plastic items.
