Clean-ups

One of the actions that has the most impact on raising awareness among the local population is the cleaning of beaches.

In addition to picking up the rubbish that the sea brings in, it is an opportunity to meet other like-minded people, learn, exchange ideas and leave our beaches as clean as possible.

In line with the Break Free From Plastic movement and Let’s Do it/World Clean Up we also analyse the material collected, adding a scientific aspect by providing a picture of the levels of plastic pollution on our beaches.

However, we know that cleaning is not the solution; the solution is to stop using plastic in our everyday lives.

Social Clean-ups

More and more groups of people, associations and private companies are going to beaches, forests or streets to help clean up plastic and other waste.

There are several active initiatives in Ibiza led by organisations such as: For The Planet, One Planet One Life, Ibiza Limpia, Plàstic 0 (GEN-GOB) and Conciencia Plástica, (often with the great support of Voluntaris de Eivissa). These include voluntary beach cleans, which are very effective at educating participants and raising awareness.

Also in Formentera, beach cleans are regularly carried out in coordination with the Consell de Formentera, Qué Celeste, Radio Illa and other groups.

Where do we go?

World Clean Up

Every year since 2018, we have responded to the call of the global “Let’s Do It!” movement, which organises World Clean Up Day every September. The event brings together millions of people from around the planet and gives us hope that change is near.

On this day, the members of Plastic Free Ibiza and Formentera organise a massive clean-up along the coastlines of our islands, gathering hundreds of volunteers to clean and care for beaches, forests and streets and collect tons of rubbish.

The aim of the World Clean Up Day is not only to remove waste, but also to raise awareness both locally and globally about the seriousness of the contamination and mismanagement of urban waste.
