Plastic Free Ibiza and Formentera first launched its certification scheme in 2019. Since then, the certification has been improved and refined, and has now become a Balearic-wide certification scheme, Plastic Free Balearics, developed jointly with Save the Med Foundation in Mallorca and launched in 2021 thanks to co-funding from Beyond Plastic Med.
