Eliminate single-use plastics
in Ibiza and Formentera by 2023
Creating a wave of local action to change the global course of plastic usage.
Our mission is to bring together all those who are committed to protecting our islands from plastic pollution.
Raising awareness and taking action are the only options to free ourselves from our damaging consumption habits and waste generation.
On the west coast of Ibiza, there are
floating pieces of microplastics per km2,
30 times more
than in the rest of the Mediterranean Sea.
72 % of rubbish
collected on the Spanish Mediterranean beaches is plastic waste.
In 2018, the coastal cleaning service pulled
of waste from the sea.
1 in 6
fish that inhabit the waters off the Spanish coast contain microplastics in their stomachs.
Plastic Free Ibiza and Formentera is movement that was formed in 2018, promoted by Ibiza and Formentera Preservation. It is made up of 14 main members: local non-profit organisations which, together with friends and volunteers, aim to preserve the environment of the two islands, focusing on the problem of plastic pollution.
Non-profit organisations that share the same vision and contribute their knowledge and experience to the common goal of helping our islands become free of single-use plastics.
